Art. Who needs it?
Has an actor’s performance on the stage ever moved you to tears? Has a dancer ever induced you to sway in sympathetic rhythm? Has a photograph ever inspired you to take action? Has the climactic moment of a movie ever left you speechless?
Who needs art? You do.
Perhaps you visit art galleries or attend the theatre or the ballet regularly. But even if you don’t, you are surrounded by artistic work every day – the photographs you see in magazines, the shows you watch on television, the movies you go to on the weekend, and the music you listen to at home and overhear as you go about your business. All these things are made possible by the individual and collaborative efforts of working artists.
Some works of art announce themselves, and others are simply woven into the fabric of our lives. But the fact is, without the work of artists, our lives would be pale and colorless.
And if you understand that you need art, we need you to support the education of artists. With a gift to the Tisch School of the Arts, you are helping to build and sustain an extraordinary training ground for artists of every variety, and the scholars and thinkers who examine, interpret, and advance their work. In the School’s ten artistic departments and two scholarly departments, in both the student body and the faculty, you will find some of the most original voices in the next generation of actors, dancers, designers, playwrights, screenwriters, theatre and film directors, composers, lyricists, librettists, photographers, digital artists, film critics, teachers, researchers, theorists and scholars.
With your gifts both large and small, we plan not only to renovate and upgrade the tools of our training and physical environment, but also to make sure that the most promising talent in the country and the world can come to study in the world’s cultural capital and its most exciting school of the arts. Our goal is to create a community that sustains the creative life we all need. The Tisch School of the Arts invites you – wherever you are in the world – to join that community.
