Frequently Asked Questions

Prospective Undergrad Students

Can I apply online?

Yes. Please visit the NYU Undergraduate Admissions web site to apply online, but remember you must still meet the audition/portfolio requirements for your department of interest.

Can I sit in on a class?

Because of the participatory and creative nature of many courses at Tisch, all departments (with the exception of the Department of Dance) do not permit prospective students to observe classes. However, you may sit in on liberal arts courses in the College of Arts and Science. For an up-to-date listing of available classes, please call 212-998-4522.

Do I have to fill out the NYU application and a Tisch application?

No. There is only one application for all undergraduate programs at NYU. However, there is a special section in the back of the application called "Special Admissions Requirements." This section lists what you must complete for your specific program at Tisch. All Tisch programs require a creative review. Please visit the Undergraduate Audition/Portfolio Reviews page for your department's requirements.

Do you hold Open House programs?

Yes, please visit the NYU Undergraduate Admissions web site for more information.

I don't think I want to apply yet. Is it possible to just take some classes at Tisch?

We no longer offer “special visiting” status for nonmatriculating students. This means you must apply to a program at Tisch and be accepted in order to take classes here.

The Office of Special Programs offers summer courses at Tisch, or if you attend another college or university, you can apply for Spring at Tisch.”

I have already attended the NYU information session and taken a campus tour. Are there any Tisch tours?

Because the nature of each program at Tisch differs so much from one another, we do not offer general Tisch tours. However, we do offer the following:

  • Undergraduate Division, Kanbar Institute of Film and Television tours during the academic year
  • Undergraduate Drama Information Sessions year-round

Reserve a space for either of these by calling the Office of Student Affairs at 212-998-1900. A limited number of spaces are available.

If you are interested in other departments at Tisch, please contact the department directly to set up a meeting.
