A naming gift confers public recognition on the benefactor of a restricted gift, linking his or her name with the scholarship, professorship, or facility that he or she has chosen to support. Examples include the Kanbar Institute of Film Television, named for longtime supporter Maurice Kanbar, and the Tisch School of the Arts itself, named in recognition of a major gift from Laurence Tisch and Preston Robert Tisch, and in acknowledgement of the leadership role of the Tisch family at NYU.
Naming gifts provide a way for a grateful alumnus to give something back to the School, and can also be a way to honor or memorialize a loved one.
