Unrestricted gifts provide the School with discretionary funds that can be used for a broad range of purposes, enabling Dean Campbell to respond with flexibility to unexpected opportunities and changing circumstances. Unrestricted funds might be used for scholarships, development of academic programs, improvement of essential facilities (including classrooms, student lounges, and production and performance facilities), or recruitment of the highest caliber artists and scholars as faculty members. In some ways, an unrestricted gift is the most unselfish of gestures because you are lending support for what is most important at any given moment. You are providing a stability and resilience that the School must have in order to thrive.
Restricted gifts are used for a specific purpose, according to the wishes of the donor. Many people choose to give for a purpose that is close to their hearts. For example, an individual who loves the movies might choose to support the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for filmmaking students. If you choose to make a restricted gift, consider some of the Tisch School of the Arts’ most critical needs – scholarships, film production funds, and endowed professorships.
