Teaching Philosophy and a Social Conscience

Aristotelian Teaching Philosophy

In all programs at the Tisch School of the Arts, the curriculum for each year is carefully crafted to build on the previous year’s instruction.  This cumulative approach results in student work that is increasingly complex, layered, and nuanced.  When students graduate, they are ready not just to enter the professional world, but to excel.

A Social Conscience:  Public Policy and the Arts

The Tisch School of the Arts believes that young artists and scholars must have opportunities to incubate their ideas outside the safe haven of the academy and in dialectic with real world issues and problems.  For this reason, the School has founded the Department of Art and Public Policy.  A School-wide enterprise, it offers courses that investigate social, ethical, and political issues, and examines public policy issues that affect the ability of artists and scholars to create and distribute their work.
