Throughout all its departments, the Tisch School of the Arts has established a laboratory atmosphere, where students "learn by doing." At Tisch, student actors act, student dancers dance, student filmmakers make films, and young scholars conduct research and write. In fact, from the moment both undergraduates and graduates begin their studies, they are encouraged to take a professional approach to their work and to remain, forever, students of their craft.

Though art begins in the mind and soul of the artist, it is often difficult to bring a vision to fruition without high caliber production and performance facilities.  The School has, in many ways, outgrown its current physical plant.  If it is to continue as a national leader in the arts, known for its conservatory approach to training at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, we must upgrade our performance and production facilities.

Our highest priority is the renovation of the original Tisch building at 111-113 Second Avenue and the addition of a 300 seat theater which is used by our Graduate Acting, Design for Stage and Film, Dance and Musical Theater Writing Programs.  Other projects include but are not limited to: upgrading nine theatre spaces housed at 721 Broadway, home of the Tisch School of the Arts; developing television production capacity and acquiring an offsite soundstage.
